INTRODUCTION

For this Collection, I’m inspirited by the History of the Public Housing in Singapore. And I named my collection “ Reminiscence”. As I wanted this collection to portrait  & recall the looks of the public housing in Singapore during the 1960s when Singapore is facing the housing problem that causes by the fast growth of population. In order to build the public housing fast to solve the problem, the government used a rather simple and functional design for the buildings. And from there I’m inspired by the shapes and colors combination at the exterior of the building during the period of time. In this Collection, you will be seeing a lot of patched pockets and strips that resemble the window and the pattern on the building itself and khaki color that reminds people of the past.

INTENTION

Notice how much Singapore has developed and changed? Singapore one of the expensive city has grown and become a mordent metropolis in just over 50 years.  Singapore didn’t start as an economic giant nor its dense amount of high rise residential and office buildings, but a rather small and poor country. I find it is important to look back in the past so that we know that things don’t come easily but with hardships, tears and sweat. And it is worth to look back.
